2025 Sport Pembrokeshire Awards Successful Evening - Part 1

Under 16 girls



 

Junior Girls (Under 16) award:


An excellent trio of great sporting promise and with a range of sports showing amongst the nominees how diverse girls’ sport has become. Great News indeed!
 

 
Ava Tyrie (Brizilian Jui Jitsu) - Winner

15-year-old Ava Tyrie of Brizilian Jiu Jitsu Pembrokeshire has been nominated for her achievements in mixed martial arts. In 2025, Ava represented Wales, becoming European Champion at the International Mixed Martial Arts Federation European Championships in Serbia.  She followed this with another stellar performance representing Wales at the World Championships in Abu Dhabi in July, earning a bronze medal for the second time on the global stage.  With these accomplishments, Ava became MMA Cymru’s most decorated athlete.   Training over eight sessions a week, Ava also mentors younger athletes, plays football for Haverfordwest County, and regularly volunteers at local sports events.
 
 
Mary Falconer (Indoor Climbing) – Runner-Up

Mary  Falconer has emerged as one of the UK and Ireland’s top youth climbers in 2025. She won the Scottish National Boulder Championship and the Irish National Lead U17 title, excelling across disciplines. Victories at major open events like ‘BlocStock’ in Dublin and ‘The Big Hold Up’ in Cardiff highlight, her international calibre. Consistently reaching podiums nationwide, Mary often outperforms senior athletes. Training daily while balancing school, she even built her own home gym. 
Her climbing achievements and training journey now reach over 1.7 million impressions monthly across social media. Mary’s determination, humility, and influence make her a national champion and an inspiring ambassador for youth sport.
 
Cerys Griffiths (Swimming) – Runner-up

Cerys Griffiths swims with Haverfordwest Seals and Pembrokeshire County Swimming squad.  In 2025, she qualified for two British competitions and excelled at the British Championships in Sheffield, winning gold in the 200m and 400m freestyle and bronze in the 800m freestyle. Her victories make her the British National Champion in both the 200m and 400m freestyle, and she retains her title as back-to-back 200m freestyle champion. Cerys’s consistency, dedication, and ability to perform at the highest level across multiple events highlight her exceptional talent.



 

Under 16s Boys



 

 Boys (Under 16) Junior Award:



This award has always featured some top performers and this year’s is no exception, with Ned just edging out Conor and Elijah for the top award.
 
 
Ned Rees-Wigmore (Hockey) - Winner
 
Ned Rees-Wigmore is a national and international hockey player. At just 14, he became one of the youngest selected for the Wales U18 squad and has captained Wales U16 at the Easter 5s in Lausanne and the European Championships in Zagreb. He represented Wales U18 at the 2025 European Championships in Alanya, becoming the only current U18 to score in two Euros, and is trialling for Wales U21 ahead of the 2026 European Championships. Ned was top scorer and Player of the Season for Swansea Men’s 1st team, scored the winning penalty in the Welsh U18 National Cup, and was selected for the Ulster U18 Hockey Mentors programme. Off the pitch, he is the youngest assistant coach appointed by Hockey Wales, and Chair of the Hockey Wales Young Ambassador Steering Group.

 
Conor Cremona (Weight Lifting) – Runner-Up
 
Conor Cremona starting weight training at Haverfordwest Leisure Centre and later moved to SAW Cymru, Conor trains independently most days, carefully planning his regime. In August 2025, competing as an Under 16 at the Welsh Powerlifting Association’s ‘Rising Heat’ in Cardiff, he broke eight Welsh records—including Under 18 records in squat, bench press, and deadlift—with a combined total of 640kg. Some lifts were unofficial British records, placing him on the International Powerlifting Federation world rankings. Conor continues to compete nationally and aims to set new records internationally, demonstrating exceptional dedication and talent.
 
 
Elijah Jones (Surfing) – Runner-up
 
In 2025, Elijah became U16 Welsh National Champion in shortboard surfing, U18 Welsh National Champion in longboard, and Men’s Welsh National Bodyboard Champion. He also secured top placements in the Welsh National Junior Championships, U16 and U18 Welsh Junior Series, Pembrokeshire Surf Club events, and the Toxic Trophy. Elijah qualified for Boardmasters Newquay, one of the UK’s most competitive junior events, and was selected for the Welsh National Surf Squad. He is one of just eight UK juniors on the GB Olympic surfing pathway.




 

 Junior Disability Sport



 

Junior Disability Sport Award:


The disability Sport award is invariably one of the most popular and this year is sure to be no exception as the three nominees has each defied their disability to feature in our local sport as evidence of the vitally growing diversity. This former judging panel member has long felt that all three are winners but delighted that everyone receives a smashing trophy in recognition of their commitment and success in overcoming any difficulties they encounter. Well done three fantastic young sports people!

 
Jake Evans (Rugby) - Winner

Jake Evans is a standout player for the U11 Llangwm Wasps, known for his fearless physicality and exceptional skill on the rugby field. Week after week, he delivers powerful performances, driving his team forward with determination and strength that belies his age. His ability to break tackles and dominate play has made him a key player and a respected competitor across the league. Jake’s commitment, teamwork, and passion for the game inspire everyone around him — players, coaches, and spectators alike. His talent and attitude embody the true spirit of rugby, making him a worthy nominee for this prestigious sporting award.
 

Jack Grey (Walking for Fishguard Thunderbolts) – Runner-up

Over the summer holidays 2025 Jack (15) took on a challenge to help him cope with the change of routine, create a new routine and do something to give back to the fantastic Disability Multi Sports Club he attends, ‘Fishguard Thunderbolts’. Jack who has complex learning needs walked every day during the holidays hoping to do 2 miles a day. With a target of 86 miles. Jack well exceeded this as he got to 112 miles and raised £1500 for Fishguard Thunderbolts.  Jack transformed a summer into a personal sporting triumph, proving that focus, perseverance, and passion can drive outstanding results, leaving a lasting impact on his club and community.

 
Ella Meacham (Water Sports) – Runner-up

Ella has been nominated for her outstanding achievements in adaptive paddleboarding. Over the past year, she has trained every weekend with Windswept Adaptive Watersports Club, making significant progress in technique, water safety, and confidence. A highlight was her participation in the “Relay Your Way” event in Swansea, where she paddled an impressive 1km as part of the adaptive relay, representing her community with skill and determination. Ella’s dedication, consistency, and enthusiasm have driven her development on the water, inspired others, and promoted inclusivity in sport, demonstrating both excellence and leadership in adaptive paddleboarding.

Junior Team Award:

 
The junior team award always features budding talent aplenty and 2025 is following that trend with football, mixed martial arts and rugby, with Merlins Bridge boys team coming out just on top of a new sport to be nominated and girls’ rugby, which again shows the range  of opportunity there is in sport for everyone in our county.
 
 
Merlins Bridge Juniors (Under 14s) football - Winners
 
Merlin’s Bridge Juniors Under 14s have had an exceptional 2024–25 season. The team completed a historic treble, winning the Pembrokeshire League unbeaten, scoring 184 goals and conceding just 10 in 22 games. They also secured the Pembrokeshire Cup, conceding only three goals, and triumphed in the West Wales Cup, defeating previously unbeaten Swansea sides. Their remarkable consistency, attacking prowess, and defensive strength across all competitions demonstrate outstanding ability and teamwork, marking one of the most impressive seasons in the club’s history and setting a high benchmark for youth football in Pembrokeshire.
 
 
 
British Jui Jitsu Pembrokeshire Mixed Martial Arts Team – Runners-Up
 
At the inaugural Welsh MMA Championships, seven athletes from the team competed, winning four golds, two silvers, and one bronze. Five were selected for the IMMAF Youth European Championships in Serbia, where one became European Champion and the others performed exceptionally. Later, seven athletes qualified for the IMMAF Youth World Championships in Abu Dhabi, with five attending and securing a World Bronze medal. Their relentless training, dedication, and outstanding results—four Welsh champions, one European champion, and one World bronze—set new standards for Pembrokeshire MMA, while their humility and character shine off the mat.
 


Haverfordwest High Year 7 Girls Rugby Team  - Runners-Up

This talented group of girls’ rugby players is a delight as they break into what was once regarded as a male territory but no longer as they have been nominated for their outstanding achievements in 2025. Under the guidance of coach Ms Mankee, the team triumphed at the Welsh Rugby Union U12 National Schools Girls Final at Rodney Parade, Newport. To reach the final, they successfully progressed through district competitions across Pembrokeshire, West Wales, and South Wales. Many team members were new to rugby, yet their commitment to training, resilience, and teamwork enabled them to excel at each stage. Their determination, cohesion, and rapid development highlight exceptional talent and dedication in youth sport.

Allannah Heasman – Gold Ambassador - Winner
 
Alannah Heasman has made an outstanding contribution as a Sport Pembrokeshire Gold Young Ambassador. Over several years at Haverfordwest High, she has supported numerous clubs, festivals, and school events, as well as multi-sport, holiday, and community programs. Alannah has been a positive role model, building strong connections with children during sessions and promoting inclusion and engagement in sport. She will continue her advocacy at Pembrokeshire College and has recently been selected for the Youth Sport Trust ‘Young Ambassador National Steering Group’, recognising her dedication, leadership, and commitment to inspiring young people through sport.
 
 
 
Enfys Battelley-de Torres – Camrose Football Club – Runner-Up
 
Enfys Battelley-de Torres has shown exceptional dedication and leadership in grassroots football. This season, she volunteered over 28 hours as assistant coach for Camrose AFC Under 7s, creating fun, safe, and inclusive sessions while earning an “Outstanding” grade in her PlayMaker Award. Enfys inspires young players with her energy, patience, and responsibility, and extends her impact beyond football through community initiatives like Environmental Day. Her leadership was recognised nationally in the FAW Euros ‘Gem for Her’ campaign, a powerful example for other young girls in sport.
 
 
 
Allannah Field - Hockey and Youth Sport – Runner-Up
 
Alannah Field has had a huge impact in hockey and youth sport. Over the past year, she has volunteered at every fundraising event for Fishguard and Goodwick Hockey Club, supporting the club with activities such as the  Christmas toy run, and was named Under-18 representative for the West region of Hockey Wales. A Gold Ambassador for Hockey Wales and Sports Pembrokeshire, she completed Level 1 and 2 disability sport coaching, leadership courses, and safeguarding training. Alannah coaches under-10s weekly, attends all tournaments, helped establish walking hockey, leads holiday camps, and was named Young Volunteer of the Year by her club for 2024/25.
